LEARNING MAKES YOU
LARGER THAN LIFE, superhero.

— here it is,the best notebook app in the universe

A Debian-based note-taking application to write and draw — best with a cup of tea.

Free for everyone, because that’s the best feeling. So how is it sustainable?

  • Talk to your app: speech-based editor functions
  • 1click capture of notes: across whole operating system
  • Creative tools of expression: to write, draw, calculate, and compose

THE NOTE-TAKING ENERGY APP
FROM Olympos by Athene

Athene sprang fully formed from the head of Zeus.
Now she returns the favour: one download, and
everything goes straight to your head.

Free for everyone

Because that’s the best feeling. The whole app, forever: no trial, no tiers, no account.

„Serving you calm technology to quench your thirst mind”

Calm the page down. Open Zoomed Typing ▾ on the EDIT or VIEW tab and pick a focus mode — Rain, Lo-fi night, Aquarium quiet and six more.
Give the work a time. Press Set Watch on the VIEW tab: the time keeper counts down your session and tells you when time is up; the stopwatch counts up.
Let the next words come. Switch on Predictive Typing on the EDIT tab. The grey suggestion waits after the caret — the Right Arrow key takes it.

Flavours

First steps

LEARN IT by doing.
SIX MOVES. ONE MINUTE EACH.

Each card is a small task for your first day with Compendium Note. Do it once — the habit stays, and the app keeps out of your way.

Speech and handwriting run on local models, downloaded once with your consent.

Clip your morning, then let it talk. Send this morning’s articles from your browser — they land on the Web clips page. Open the arrow next to the page title: the summary is waiting.
Listen while you get ready. Press Read the summary aloud, then do your workout and brush your teeth — the page reads itself to you.

Move 1 of 5 · Meeting To Text

Athene and Mira are personas, not real users. The screens are drawn from the app.

Compendium Note Desktop + Android Companion App

I AM always ON THE ROAD WAY.

Desktop, tablet and phone — ALL notebooks walk the way with you.

A laptop seen from above, Compendium Note open on a physics lecture page. A tablet with a seminar page, a small signature with a stylus at its end, and a green Pasted! message in the corner.
A phone home screen with the Compendium Companion widget and app; every few seconds the Companion settings sheet slides up over it.
Sunglasses with a grey matte front and black temples, set down open on a dark table, the lenses reflecting a sunny street.

Accreditation form

Is it really free?

Yes. The whole app is free for everyone, under the GNU GPL v3 or later. No trial, no ads, no account.

So how is it sustainable?

[Answer from the Business thread — N22.] Our direction: whatever costs money to run — sync, certified timestamps, support for schools — is paid for by those who need it. Supporters keep the lights on, and an open ledger shows the numbers.

What does it run on?

Debian 13 (trixie) on amd64, as a .deb package. A Flatpak is planned; other distributions follow your votes.

Do I need the internet or an account?

No account, ever. Your notes stay on your computer. The internet is used only when you say yes — to download a speech model, for example.

Whose AI is it?

Yours. Speech recognition, read-aloud and the local AI run on your own machine by default. If you prefer, you can plug in your own Anthropic API key.

Can I bring my OneNote notebooks?

Yes. OneNote .one files import one way, without loss. Nothing is ever written back to them.

Is there a phone app?

Compendium Companion for Android reads your notebooks and takes dictation offline. It has no internet permission at all — and anyone can check.

Is it really gluten-free?

Yes. Side effects may include finished homework and a headache of Olympian proportions. Zeus had it worse — that’s how Athene was born.

Mira, a fictional student, works on her laptop on a night train; city lights pass in the window.
Ms. Mira Persona is an honest not-a-real-person

MIRA: THE IMAGINED STUDENT WE BUILT IT FOR. FICTIONAL STUDENT, REAL LIFE FEATURES.

“I study physics in Paris, my lab is in Berlin and my grandmother lives in Budapest — so my notes live on trains and airplanes. I record the seminar, and by Budapest the transcript has told the voices apart. I say an equation out loud and it comes back as math; I sketch the circuit right next to it. No account, no signal, nothing to pay. When my eyes are tired, it reads my notes back to me aloud. It can summarize it all if I need, it’s the first notebook that thinks the way I do.”
